1. Welcome to WhiskyAngelz: Unleashing Cask Strength Chaos
WhiskyAngelz Podcast is here! Buckle up, whisky lovers (or curious newcomers)! If you stumbled here by searching for tweed-clad, monocle-wearing whisky snobbery, you’ve taken a detour down the wrong cobbled lane. WhiskyAngelz: Cask Strength Chaos is the madcap, marvellously unscripted passion project of Max—Edinburgh native, filmmaker by trade, whisky fan for life. With a dash of nostalgia and a splash of irreverence, this brand new podcast promises plenty of drams, banter, a bit of accidental button-pushing, and all the oddball stories Scotland’s most iconic drink inspires. No need to polish your glassware—just bring some curiosity and perhaps a whisky (or whiskey, depending where you are) in hand.

Slàinte and welcome, fellow whisky misfits! 🍻 You’ve just stepped into WhiskyAngelz: Cask Strength Chaos, where we mix history, humour, and high-proof storytelling—with a healthy dose of irreverence.
This is more than just a podcast. It’s a whisky-fuelled adventure through the scandals, myths, feuds, and forgotten tales that make whisky the most legendary drink on the planet. Whether it’s whiskey with an ‘e’ or otherwise there’s no snobbery, no nonsense—just great drams and even better stories.
In this chaotic debut of Whisky Angelz, Max stumbles upon a £360 bottle of whisky, presses all the wrong buttons, and somehow still manages to deliver tasting notes and whisky history. If you like your podcasts with a side of absurdity and a dram of disaster, you’re in the right place.

2. Meet Max: Whisky, Edinburgh, and Sentimental Sniffs
Who’s captaining the chaos? Max grew up sucking in the malty air as he was whisked past the North British Distillery in Edinburgh—a smell, he says, that lives rent-free in his memory. From sticky-floored student days to behind the camera at some of Scotland’s most legendary distilleries, Max has seen it all.

Now, he’s determined to share a lifetime of whisky adventures (the disasters as much as the triumphs) with listeners around the globe. Whether you’ve sipped your way around Islay or you’re still figuring out what a dram actually is, Max wants you to join the conversation on the WhiskyAngelz podcast. Comments, wild opinions, whisky confessions—all are welcome in the WhiskyAngelz fold.
3. Hot Off the (Malt) Press: GlenAllachie Snags Top Honours
What’s the buzz in whisky news? GlenAllachie 12 Year Old has just booted the big boys and bagged the title of World’s Best Single Malt for 2025 at the World Whisky Awards. We’re talking Speyside majesty matured in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks—sounds dangerously close to liquid dessert, and Max is here for it. If your sweet tooth calls the shots, keep an eye out for a future tasting episode. Hats firmly off to the GlenAllachie crew for proving independent spirit (and spirits) still cuts it on the world stage.
4. Tariff Trouble: When US Politics Invades Your Whisky Cabinet
Right, cue the sad trombones: Donald Trump’s back with his import tariffs, threatening to decimate the Scotch whisky industry again. The last time America slapped on a 25% tariff, the UK lost a jaw-dropping £600 million in whisky sales—imagine what a modest 10% might do for round two. Max lays it out: 66,000 UK jobs could be on the line, and anyone saying American politics don’t matter overseas just needs to check the nearest whisky export spreadsheet. Let’s all raise a glass (and maybe our voices) in hope this one blows over faster than a Highland squall.
5. Festival Fever: Revelry Across Scotland
Now, let’s wash away the tariff blues with a proper celebration—the Scottish National Whisky Festival just wrapped, and Max reckons it’s a must for any whisky fan. Hundreds converged in Glasgow to sip, swirl and swap stories, and if you haven’t been to a festival yet, you’re doing it wrong. These events aren’t just about drinking (though that’s a perk)—they’re about camaraderie, discovery, and spontaneous new friendships, whether you’re in the heart of Speyside or a city centre. If you get the chance to buy a ticket, do it. Bonus points if you show up in questionable tartan.
6. Max’s Desert Island Dram: The Highland Park 18 Year Old
No whisky podcast would be complete without a tasting and the WhiskyAngelz podcast is no exception! Max’s first ‘Desert Island Dram’ turned out to be a unicorn: a Highland Park 18 Year Old, inherited from his late dad and rediscovered at the back of the shelf. With a going rate of £360 for early 2000s bottles (gulp), this wasn’t your average Tuesday night tipple. Highland Park, perched on windswept Orkney, was the first distillery Max ever filmed—and the cinematic memories flood back: Viking legends, stone circles at sunset, and just a hint of movie-set smoke (the legal kind).

Pouring a decidedly not-measured dram, Max explores the nose and palate for listeners. On the nose: heather honey, floral notes, a brush of peat smoke, and a tickle of warehouse earthiness—“like a Middle Eastern bazaar dusted with Highland mist.” On the palate: gentle smokiness, zesty fruit, dried fruit lingering on the finish, with a warm, honeyed hug. It’s not Christmas cake sweet—there’s still a bit of sharpness and Highland backbone. He recommends giving it a splash of water to open up the parade of flavours (and stretch a premium bottle further, perhaps).
7. Why Highland Park Stands Out
Highland Park keeps to tradition with its own y-shaped maltings floor and locally cut peat, contributing to a uniquely Orkney character. Max’s reminiscences from filming—dodging hot lights among slumbering barrels and swapping stories with gregarious presenters—bring home that whisky, more than just a drink, is an experience shaped by people and place. If you get your hands on a bottle (or even the standard 12 Year Old, which is much friendlier on the wallet), Max insists you’re in for a treat.
